Fargo is an owner surrender. The story on Fargo is that years ago, she was abandoned at Heart River Stables. She was pregnant at the time and had a healthy foal. Fargo was then purchased by the current owner who later found out the past owners moved to Fargo, thus her name became. An AQHA registration certificate was able to be tracked down by the new owner of the foal, but no registration was ever transferred with Fargo. Therefore, we have her registration and breeding information but her papers will not transfer with her.
At the time, her training was minimal and the past owner said she started working with her. Fargo eventually became a very good trail partner and has been ridden in the Badlands, Killdeer Mountains, and south of Mandan on various trails. She has crossed over the Heart River, ridden in the draws and hills many times. According to the previous owner, Fargo was the one her friend preferred to ride because of how she handled. She had a habit of tossing her head so she started using a hackmore and the head tossing stopped.
The previous owner said that her biggest flaw is that she can be a challenge to trailer at times. She said Fargo has been healthy her whole life except recently when she needed her teeth floated and it was suggested she needs yearly floating. The owner said that Fargo recently has lost some weight and needs to have extra feed and care that due to medical and life circumstances can no longer give her the time she needs so she surrendered her to us.
UPDATE:
We took Fargo to the vet to get her teeth floated. It was discovered that a tooth had pushed through her mouth into her sinus in the past causing a hole. She eats hay fine, but it takes her longer to eat so the vet said she will need a senior feed to help her eat easier since her teeth aren't the best.
We are currently feeding her softened beet pulp with senior feed and a grass/alfalfa mix hay and she seems to be doing well on that.
Please note the photos of Fargo being ridden are from the past and not photos we have taken at the rescue.
UPDATE: Fargo has been ridden several times. She stands tied, picks up feet, fly sprays, saddles, and takes the hackmore with no issues. Fargo trail rides wonderful and neckreins great. She is not a dead head, but not high strung either. At this point, Fargo still needs to gain some weight so we have only ridden her at a walk and trot. Additionally, we've only trail ridden with other horses at the moment so we are unsure how she will ride out on her own.
